Ships Binnacle Compass

A hugely impressive ships binnacle compass from a tall ship of the early 20th century. The compass by John Lilley and Gillie of North Shields is mounted in a heavy gimbal which is held by short chains and sprung for shock resistance. The hood can be rotated 180 degrees for the best viewing angle and the very top cover can be removed for downward lighting. The compass is normally lit from beneath and also has an adjustable light filter for night use. Complete with its clinometer and original flinders tube. £4500
